To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assumptions were made by the Strategic Rail Authority in the Integrated Kent Franchise document about (a) current and (b) future capacity in the peak-hour services between Petts Wood, Orpington, St. Mary Cray and London.

Estimates of seats provided in the three-hour peak based on analysis of current scheduled South Eastern Trains service and estimates for the proposed service, based on the best current information about future train formations and vehicle types, are as follows:

(a) Current (b) Future
Petts Wood 16,400 9,200
Orpington 17,800 17,600
St. Mary Cray 8,600 9,300

Numbers are approximate and subject to possible change.

As now, the key factor is not overall train capacity, but how much spare capacity is available by the time services arrive at these stations.
