To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many people were seriously injured in road traffic accidents in (a) 1997 and (b) 2003.

The number of people seriously injured in reported injury road accidents in Great Britain was 42,984 in 1997 and 35,976 in 2002, the last year for which information is available.
