To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much has been spent on recruitment advertisements in the press, broken down by publication, by (a) his Department, (b) quangos under the Department and (c) non-departmental Government bodies under the Department (i) in the last year and (ii) since 1997.
Expenditure by the Recruitment Service on advertising in relation to appointments to the Northern Ireland civil service is as follows:
2003: £0.5 million
1998–2002: £1.8 million
The Recruitment Service uses the most appropriate publication for recruitment advertising (normally the regional press), depending on the nature of the vacancy to be filled.
Other information in the form requested is not readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
