To ask the Deputy Prime Minister, what plans he has to encourage councils to adopt registered social landlords as principal agents for development.

Guidance to local authorities already stresses the need to consider using registered social landlords when funding provision of affordable housing. This will generally provide more dwellings for a given amount of public subsidy and increases choice and competition.
