Health written question – answered at on 7 January 2003.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health what progress has been made in increasing the number of in-patient beds at (a) Rampton and (b) Broadmoor prison.
Projects are well under way to deliver beds for the dangerous and severe personality disorder (DSPD) programme at both Broadmoor and Rampton High Security Hospitals. This programme will deliver an additional 70 in-patient beds at both hospitals, to be completed by late 2004. Work is due to commence in January 2003 on an initial 10 bed pilot ward for DSPD patients at Broadmoor, which is expected to open in April 2003.
