To ask the Secretary of State for Health what the gross expenditure of the Prescription Pricing Authority was in relation to the monitoring of prescriptions in the last 12 months.
The annual gross expenditure of the Prescription Pricing Authority for the financial year 2000–01 was £62,340,000. Included in this was the sum of £1,238,000 for monitoring patient compliance with the current prescription charging arrangements.
