To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if she will assess trends in energy provision supplied on a local level.
Information on energy supply and consumption within local areas is not currently available centrally.
Information on energy which is produced and used within the same location, such as electricity generated and used on site and heat generated on site from a local source such as renewables, is available in the Digest of United Kingdom Energy Statistics. The Digest for 2001 will be published on
The Digest for 2001 will show that electricity generated by companies other than major power producers and not transferred to the public distribution system increased at a rate of 9 per cent. a year between 1996 and 2000.
