To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs if she will make a statement on her responsibilities for the rural economy.

The Government's objective is to facilitate the development of dynamic, competitive and sustainable economies in the countryside, tackling poverty in rural areas and this is a key priority for my Department. We will be working closely with the Regional Development Agencies, the Countryside Agency, local authorities and other partners including the food and farming industries to achieve this.
