Mr. McQuarrie asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he will be in a position to announce his decision on aid to the fish processing industry.

Mr. Younger: The fish processing industry is eligible for the same investment assistance as is available to manufacturing industry generally. It may also receive loans on its investment from the Sea Fish Industry Authority and, in certain cicumstances, grants from the European Community.

I am considering the cases for special and additional assistance submitted by the Aberdeen Fish Merchants and Curers Association—on behalf of the processing industry in North-East Scotland–and by the Herring Buyers Association. After consultation with colleagues, I shall announce a decision in the near future.
