Mr. Ernie Ross asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will provide an estimate of the number of those in Northern Ireland with Down's syndrome; and if he will express the figure per 100,000 of population.

Mr. John Patten: It is estimated that 2,250 people in Northern Ireland, or 146 per 100,000 total population, suffer from Down's syndrome.
