Question S3W-40556
To ask the Scottish Executive what regulations govern the number of burials that can be carried out in family graves.
Through powers vested in them under the Burial Grounds (Scotland) Act 1855 (as amended), local authorities may sell the exclusive right of burial in a particular plot, either in perpetuity or for a limited period, and under such restrictions and conditions as they think proper.
The Act does not contain specific detail on the number of burials which can be carried out in any given plot. This is a matter for local authorities.
