To ask the Scottish Executive how many people have been imprisoned in 2009 and how many were imprisoned in (a) 2007 and (b) 2008.
I have asked Mike Ewart, Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service (SPS), to respond. His response is as follows:
The following table illustrates how many admissions there were to SPS establishments in each of the years requested. The data is as of 20 March 2009.
