To ask the Scottish Executive whether the NHS is required to ensure that the vehicles used under its taxi contracts are accessible to disabled people.
There is no legal requirement under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 for taxis to be accessible to people with disabilities including wheelchair users. NHS boards can however stipulate their own requirements in their tender specifications.
