To ask the Scottish Executive what steps it is taking to address under-representation of women in head teacher posts in secondary schools.

The Executive is constantly promoting equal opportunities in teacher recruitment and promotion. There has been a steady increase in the percentage of women in head teacher posts in secondary schools in recent years. Since devolution in 1999 this has risen from 11.5%, to 21% in 2005.
