To ask the Scottish Executive how the sale of Meadowbank Stadium fits with the National Strategy for Sport.

Reaching Higher defines the role of local authorities in taking a strategic approach to the provision and management of sports facilities within their corporate asset management strategy. The revised strategy also states that local authorities should liaise with sportscotland and sport governing bodies and take into account the needs of local communities in planning for sports facilities.

The City of Edinburgh Council announced its intention to replace Meadowbank Sports Centre with a new facility at Sighthill in December 2006. The City of Edinburgh Council is currently conducting a public consultation which sets out its intentions for the Meadowbank site. Comments are sought by 30 March.
