To ask the Scottish Executive how the intellectual property rights are assigned in respect of DNA sequences in samples collected by the police in Scotland.
The Scottish Executive understands that there are no intellectual property rights relating to DNA sequences in samples collected by the police in Scotland. Intellectual property rights are associated with the techniques used to process the samples when generating DNA profiles.
