To ask the Scottish Executive how much of the £100 million for the support of renewable energy technologies announced by the Prime Minister on 6 March 2001 it will receive through the Barnett formula.

The allocation of the £100 million for renewable energy announced by the Prime Minister has yet to be decided, and will be the subject of a report due in the autumn from the UK Government’s Performance and Innovation Unit. We will stay in close touch with HM Treasury and the Department of Trade and Industry on this issue.

Barnett Formula

An economic mechanism used by the Treasury to adjust automatically the amounts of public expenditure allocated to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, to reflect changes in spending levels allocated to public services in England, England and Wales or Great Britain as a whole.
