The next item of business is consideration of 12 Parliamentary Bureau motions. First, I ask Patricia Ferguson to move motions S2M-1763 to S2M-1771 inclusive, on approval of Scottish statutory instruments.

I wish to record, once again, our objection to this set of SSIs. The arguments have been well rehearsed, but I would add one thing: I invite the minister to meet me to discuss some research that has come into my possession—research that backs up our case completely.

I ask Ms Ferguson to move motion S2M-1773, on the remit of the Education Committee.

Motion moved,

That the Parliament agrees that the remit for the Education Committee be amended to—To consider and report on matters relating to school and pre-school education, young people and social work and such other matters as fall within the responsibility of the Minister for Education and Young People.—[Patricia Ferguson.]

That the Parliament agrees that the Justice 1 Committee be designated as lead committee in consideration of the draft Maximum Number of Judges (Scotland) Order 2004.
