Islamophobia Awareness Month — [Peter Dowd in the Chair] (24 Nov 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: It is a pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, Mr Dowd. I am grateful to my hon. Friend the Member for Manchester, Gorton (Afzal Khan) for securing the debate during Islamophobia Awareness Month. I want to set something straight on the record. Bolton South East does not need the help of other MPs to deal with the issues of taxi drivers. I deal with them, meet them regularly and do not...

Budget Resolutions - Income Tax (Charge) ( 2 Nov 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: Last week, the Chancellor came into this Chamber with great optimism, but many of us needed to hear much more than just hot air. Instead, we ended up with a Budget that the shadow Chancellor, my hon. Friend the Member for Leeds West (Rachel Reeves), has described as offering “no plan to tackle the growing cost of living crisis”, and doing nothing to remove the enormous tax burden that...

Budget Resolutions - Income Tax (Charge) ( 2 Nov 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: The hon. Member for Warrington South (Andy Carter) talks about financial prudence, but this Government spent £39 billion on the failed Test and Trace. How can Conservative Members talk about financial prudence?

Budget Resolutions - Income Tax (Charge) ( 2 Nov 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: Will the Secretary of State give way?

Judicial Review and Courts Bill (26 Oct 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: Does my right hon. Friend agree that hospital authorities can hire Queen’s Counsel and spend millions of pounds on defending themselves, yet lone individuals cannot even get legal aid following the death of their immediate family? How disgusting is that?

Human Rights: Kashmir (23 Sep 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: I thank the Backbench Business Committee for allowing the debate and my hon. Friend the Member for Oldham East and Saddleworth (Debbie Abrahams) for setting out the issues at the heart of the debate. The truth is, the Kashmir struggle has gone on a long while, spanning many decades, and tens and thousands of people have died. Many hon. Members will be familiar with the history, so I will...

Definition of Islamophobia — [Mrs Sheryll Murray in the Chair] ( 9 Sep 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: It is a great pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, Mrs Murray. I congratulate the hon. Member for Peterborough (Paul Bristow) and my hon. Friend the Member for Bradford West (Naz Shah) on obtaining this urgent and timely debate. I thank all colleagues who have spoken. It has been a sterling debate. I particularly want to touch on what my hon. Friend the Member for Coventry South...

Definition of Islamophobia — [Mrs Sheryll Murray in the Chair] ( 9 Sep 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: I entirely agree with my hon. Friend. I hope that the Minister has heard, and takes on board the points and issues that have been raised in the debate, and I look forward to his response.

Definition of Islamophobia — [Mrs Sheryll Murray in the Chair] ( 9 Sep 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: I thank my hon. Friend for giving way. I was actually just moving my head; I was not agreeing or disagreeing. On the point about prosecution, yes, we have laws in place, but that does not detract from the fact that the definition of Islamophobia needs to be made. As a barrister, if someone is asking my legal opinion, I would say yes, we do need the definition.

Definition of Islamophobia — [Mrs Sheryll Murray in the Chair] ( 9 Sep 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: Will my hon. Friend give way?

Definition of Islamophobia — [Mrs Sheryll Murray in the Chair] ( 9 Sep 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: Language develops over the years; language and words change and are culturalised. Language does not stay static forever.

Business of the House (22 Jul 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: May I add my thanks, as you did, Mr Deputy Speaker, to everyone in the House who has kept us going throughout the pandemic, with all the challenges that we have faced? My thanks go to everyone. Yesterday, the Government sneaked out their response to the Cumberlege report in a written statement. In that response, the Government have refused to implement many of the report’s recommendations,...

Yasmin Qureshi: Will the Minister give way?

Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review ( 8 Jul 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: I thank the hon. Lady for giving way. I heard both the points she made, but would the victims be compensated if the legal proceedings were withdrawn, or is this issue about the expert working group still going to be an obstacle?

Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review ( 8 Jul 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: I congratulate my hon. Friend the Member for Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle (Emma Hardy) on obtaining this debate. I am chair of the all-party group on hormone pregnancy tests, which contains 135 MPs. This is just one of the countless times I have stood on the Floor of this House on behalf of thousands of victims affected by the hormone pregnancy test drug Primodos to plead with this...

Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review ( 8 Jul 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: The hon. Lady mentions the expert working group’s report, which was, as she rightly says, universally panned in this Chamber. The interesting thing is that the Cumberlege review took place after the expert working group. It had a look at the report and also came to the conclusion that it was not worth the paper it was written on.

Business of the House ( 1 Jul 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: I have had emails from constituents who wish to seek exemption from hotel quarantine on the grounds of the serious ill health of themselves or their family members. They have mentioned the difficulty of booking a quarantine hotel, the splitting up of families and the substandard food and accommodation. Further, when I have written to the Department responsible for the exemptions, I have not...

International Travel (29 Jun 2021)

Yasmin Qureshi: May I refer the House to my interest as chair of the all-party parliamentary group on Pakistan? Along with Bangladesh, Pakistan was placed on the red list at the start of April despite a clear disparity in cases with other nations on the green list that had high infection rates and variants of concern. I and other APPG colleagues have requested disclosure of the figures behind that decision,...

Find this exact word or phrase

You can also do this from the main search box by putting exact words in quotes: like "cycling" or "hutton report"

By default, we show words related to your search term, like “cycle” and “cycles” in a search for cycling. Putting the word in quotes, like "cycling", will stop this.

Excluding these words

You can also do this from the main search box by putting a minus sign before words you don’t want: like hunting -fox

We also support a bunch of boolean search modifiers, like AND and NEAR, for precise searching.
