Ross Hussey: Like Mr Dallat, I pay tribute to the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. I had the misfortune of having to travel recently in an ambulance with my late mother to the South West Acute Hospital. The paramedics who dealt with my mother were excellent. Does the Minister know how much compulsory overtime ambulance drivers and paramedics have to undertake because of the 98 paramedic vacancies, or...
Ross Hussey: I, too, welcome Mr Middleton to the House and thank him for bringing this subject to the Floor. Like Mr Durkan's, my family has experienced suicide. That word on its own puts a shiver down your spine. I welcome the Health Minister here today and wish him well in his new role. Is suicide preventable? In some cases, the answer is no, and we have to accept that. Yes, we want a suicide...
Mitchel McLaughlin: ...Speaker indicated on many occasions, that it is completely out of order for Members to make gestures — finger-pointing, in particular — during debates. That occurred on a couple of occasions across the House today. I chose not to respond to it on this occasion, but I am giving a very clear reminder to the House that that will not be tolerated in future. It is not part of the debate....
Ross Hussey: I am sure that Members are wondering why I have taken some time to sit here this evening and participate in the debate. I will begin by declaring an interest as a member of the Policing Board and as a former member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserve and the Police Service of Northern Ireland, where I served as a part-time officer. When you hear about the proposals, they do not make...

Ross Hussey: I thank the First Minister for his response. I, too, like members of my party, am very concerned to see that people who were injured as a result of terrorist activity are compensated through a pension. How many people have been identified in the initial soundings as requiring a pension?
Ross Hussey: On a point of order, Mr Speaker. I apologise unreservedly for not being in my place when called at Question Time. I apologise to you and your staff for any inconvenience that that may have caused.

As a valid petition of concern was presented on Friday 6 February in relation to the amendment, the vote on the amendment will also be on a cross-community basis. Question put, That the amendment be made. The Assembly divided: Ayes 2; Noes 96 AYES ...
Robin Newton: Mr Ross Hussey is not in his place. I therefore call Mr Sammy Wilson — Sorry, Mr Sammy Douglas. [Laughter.]
Mitchel McLaughlin: Mr Ross Hussey is not in his place.

Barry McElduff: The Minister will accept that we are all at one on the issue of recognising the excellence of staff throughout the Western Trust. There is no divergence on that point whatsoever, but I echo Ross Hussey's point that among those staff are the staff at Ash Villa, who were due to receive recognition from Stirling University for their excellence. They should be listened to at this time.
