Kelly Tolhurst: The aviation sector is important to the UK economy and the government recognises the challenging times facing the sector as a result of COVID-19. The Expert Steering Group (ESG) was set up to bring together all the interested parties from across government and industry to co-produce solutions where possible. Membership of the ESG compromises of a range of industry experts and relevant...
Lord Nash: ...grant worth £125m in 2017-18. We have also amended regulations to allow local authorities to use other sources of funding to pay for education services for maintained schools once the ESG is removed from September 2017. Local authorities are allowed to retain some of their maintained schools’ Dedicated Schools Grant so that they can continue to deliver the statutory duties they carry...
Nick Gibb: ...School Services Block (CSSB), which is allocated to all local authorities. The CSSB includes funding previously allocated through the retained duties element of the education services grant (ESG), which covers the responsibilities held by local authorities for all schools. The general funding rate of the ESG was only for the responsibilities that local authorities held for their...
Pat McFadden: ...regulations, which we tried to press this morning, but to social and governance considerations. Committee members who have anything to do with the sector or industry will know that the letters ESG—environmental, social and governance—come up a lot. I am sure that, like me, the Minister does lots of roundtables, meetings and so on, and he will be struck by the enthusiasm with which City...
Guy Opperman: ...term considerations in mind. This can exclude consideration of options that take account of longer term financial factors, such as those arising from material environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks. We are concerned that some investment decisions may not appropriately take into account longer term financial factors, such as those arising from material environmental, social and...
Guy Opperman: My hon. Friend is a specialist in this field thanks to his profession prior to being elected to the House. It seems to me that as we drive forward the ESG reforms and the changes under clause 124, and as we have climate-related financial disclosure, pension funds will wish to invest in a sustainable way that produces an appropriate return but is supportable from an ESG point of view....
Lord Shinkwin: ...and sanction companies linked to the camps in Xinjiang? He may also be aware that many of these companies advertise heavily that they are ethical and uphold environmental, social, and governance—ESG—criteria. Fine, but what about genocide? Where does that fit within ESG criteria? Is ignoring it for profit ethical? Surely we should move towards defining ESG criteria in primary...
Jonathan R Shaw: ...Notes: 1. These data are collected by the June Survey of Agriculture. The results of this survey are subject to sampling error. More details of the survey are at: http://statistics.defra.gov.uk/esg/statnot/june_eng.pdf 2. Mr Bob Dunn: I listened carefully to the hon. Member for Cambridgeshire, North-East. I was not persuaded by his argument that net expenditure by authorities on projects supported by ESGs should be disregarded when targets are calculated. However, his speech was thoughtful and I shall consider it again and derive from it what I can.
Mrs Angela Rumbold: The training grant scheme needs to be looked at together with the other main specific grant programme—education support grants. Many of the ESG programmes also support training, and in 1990–91 training grants and education support grants will together support the largest ever specific education grant programme, costing £355 million.

Lord Bach: The independent evaluation of the regional food strategy, which was published on 18 October 2005, is now available on Defra's website at www.statistics.defra.gov.uk/esg/evaluation/regional/default. asp.
Rachel Reeves: I want to give way to as many members of the Committee as possible, but in the spirit of the amendment, I want a debate that is specifically about ESG issues. It is fitting that we give due consideration to them.
Chris Grayling: DWP has signed Work programme contracts with fifteen private organisations, namely; A4e Avanta Enterprise Ltd (TNG) Business Employment Services Training Ltd (BEST) ESG EOS G4S Ingeus UK Ltd JHP Group Ltd Maximus Employment UK Ltd Pertemps Prospects Services Ltd. Guy Opperman: I want to help the hon. Gentleman on one point. He needs to understand that the ESG regulations are not voluntary, as the right hon. Member for Kingston and Surbiton (Sir Edward Davey) suggested. They are mandatory. If the trustees fail to follow them, specific sanctions follow.
