Jenni Minto: It is with great pleasure that I speak in this debate on the excellence of education in Scotland. I will focus my speech on my constituency of Argyll and Bute, where there are many examples of that excellence. I want to pay tribute to all teachers and staff who make our schools and colleges great places to learn. Argyll and Bute is home to many diverse communities, each with its own assets...

Jenni Minto: I welcome the publication of the project Neptune report and the fact that it sets out viable alternatives to the current structure. As I have said in previous debates, there are strong views in Argyll and Bute about the split roles of CMAL and CalMac. I need to be clear that this is about the structures and not the employees of either organisation. We need to recognise the important work that...

Jenny Gilruth: ...outage; it has now been split in half, and the time that the port will be closed for has been substantially reduced I met the Mull & Iona Ferry Committee yesterday along with the constituency MSP Jenni Minto to discuss this very issue, and CalMac is in discussions with the committee, too. I expect the committee to have clarification on the timetable later this week.
Jenni Minto: 5. To ask the Scottish Government what additional support it can give to rural and island communities, such as those in Argyll and Bute, in light of basic fuel costs reportedly being disproportionately high historically. (S6O-01376)
Jenni Minto: The Scottish Government has been tireless in acquiring safe and comfortable temporary accommodation for Ukrainians who have newly arrived in Scotland, with the assistance of councils such as Argyll and Bute Council in my area. The minister touched on this in answering previous questions, but can he provide any additional information on the on-going dialogue with COSLA and local councils to...
Jenni Minto: As an Islay resident, I welcome the commitments that the minister has given today, especially her commitment to improve communication with local island communities and businesses. We also need to ensure that more islanders are more involved in decision making on lifeline ferry services. What can be done to improve that? I would also like to take the opportunity to invite the minister to Islay.
Jenni Minto: I was impacted by a ferry breakdown on Monday, but thanks to the excellent CalMac staff, I and other ferry users were able to get on later ferries. Does the First Minister agree that the staff of CalMac work tirelessly to help all their customers when breakdowns happen?
The Deputy Presiding Officer: Jenni Minto has a very brief supplementary question.
Jenni Minto: On a point of order, Presiding Officer. My app seemed to drop out. I would have voted no.

Jenni Minto: 1. To ask the Scottish Government what it is doing to tackle population decline in the Argyll and Bute constituency and other rural areas. (S6O-01276)
