Business of the House (3 Oct 2019)

Robert Courts: RAF Brize Norton is to be thanked for and congratulated on having created a science, technology, engineering and maths inspiration programme with Carterton Community College, as mentioned in the Chief of the Air Staff’s report to Her Majesty the Queen. The school has now taken on that programme and created a group that is working with local businesses to further that inspiration. That is a...

Digital, Culture, Media and Sport: Topical Questions (3 Oct 2019)

Robert Courts: It has been another brilliant year for National Citizen Service schemes in Witney, through which young people learn vital life skills and have great fun at the same time. Will the Minister please confirm that the scheme continues, and will continue, to have the Government’s full support?

Domestic Abuse Bill: Carry-over: Welsh Language (2 Oct 2019)

Glyn Davies: ...encouragement from the great Gwynfor Evans, who went on hunger strike to support the cause. The biggest advance, in my view and that of many others, was the Welsh Language Act 1993, when Lord Wyn Roberts was such a key player. Today, we have reached the stage in the recovery of the Welsh language at which the Welsh Government have formally adopted the aim of there being 1 million Welsh...

Domestic Abuse Bill (2 Oct 2019)

Robert Buckland: May I make a little progress? As I have said, I will be as generous as I can. Can I take the House back 25 years to a case in the Crown court at Carmarthen that involved a young couple? The man was charged with assault against his wife. A young barrister had been given that case. That was me, and I remember seeing photographs of the victim’s injuries. I was 24, and not very worldly-wise. I...

Park Home Residents: Legal Protection (1 Oct 2019)

Christopher Chope: ...plots. I am sceptical about my hon. Friend’s earlier point about the fit and proper person test. I will illustrate my scepticism by referring to the controlling director of Royale Parks Ltd. Robert Lee Jack Bull, born in May 1977, was appointed as the director of Royale Parks Ltd on 7 September 2018. Directly or indirectly, he holds between 25% and 50% of the shares and voting rights in...

Business of the House (26 Sep 2019)

Liz Saville-Roberts: On a point of order, Mr Speaker. The Supreme Court told us with great clarity this week that accountability lies at the heart of parliamentary democracy. I seek to know what resorts we have when the Prime Minister respects no boundaries in his tactics, language and conduct—and does that in order to avoid or deflect accountability. Could you advise me, therefore, on the applicability of an...

Prime Minister's Update (25 Sep 2019)

Liz Saville-Roberts: ...and resoluteness of intent in the face of the Prime Minister’s incontinent goading? This Government will abide by legislation to extend article 50 unless this House decides otherwise. The Supreme Court decided that the Prime Minister did not prorogue this place in order to deliver a Queen’s Speech but to stymie parliamentary debate. I would not presume to impugn the honour of the Prime...

Scottish Parliament: House of Commons (Constitutional Developments) (11 Sep 2019)

Michael Russell: Mr Tomkins uses the word “outrageous”. I—for once—completely agree with him. Sources at number 10 Downing Street suggested that “The legal activists choose the Scottish courts for a reason”. That is an outrageous thing to say. Gavin Barwell—I think, now Lord Barwell—who was Theresa May’s chief of staff, said that “This is a ... unwise road for a party that believes in ......

Written Answers — Ministry of Defence: Hercules Aircraft (9 Sep 2019)

Robert Courts: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the Defence Safety Authority report into the loss of a C130J Hercules in Iraq in August 2017, published May 2019, which stated that the resourced position of 20 crews will be insufficient to deliver a sustainable force beyond 2019, what additional (a) financial and (b) personnel resources have been allocated to the C130J force to...

Priorities for Government (25 Jul 2019)

Robert Courts: I welcome the Prime Minister to his place and thank him for the passionate, optimistic defence of free market values that we have heard today. Will he look at the offer that we give our armed forces, in particular with a view to retention? May I also invite him to visit RAF Brize Norton, not only to thank them for the excellent hard work they do there but to see where we need a little bit of help?

Female Offender Strategy: One Year On — [Joan Ryan in the Chair] (24 Jul 2019)

Robert Buckland: ...to Lord Farmer for his review, and we will take his work forward. My hon. Friend the Member for Shipley is right that the fact that someone might be a carer should not always be a reason for a court not to go down a particular sentencing path. Judges have to have discretion, and it would be bad sentencing practice for one issue to trump everything else. I will try to deal with the...

We also support a bunch of boolean search modifiers, like AND and NEAR, for precise searching.
