Liberal Democrat MP for Twickenham (13 Dec 2019 – current)
Tania Mathias: ...-Davies). I congratulate my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Braintree (James Cleverly) on an excellent maiden speech. I am very pleased to be speaking on climate change. My constituency of Twickenham has many homes at risk of flooding. Most Twickenham residents are very aware of their carbon footprint and know the three Rs of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. People come to Twickenham...
Baroness Garden of Frognal: Twickenham station currently already serves passengers attending large rugby events on a regular basis. It is for Stagecoach Southwest Trains as the train and station operator at Twickenham to work with the British Transport Police, the Rugby Football Union and the local authority, to manage passenger flows at the station during special events. The operator has a significant amount of...
Sadiq Khan: ...highway structures on the Transport for London Road Network are subject to routine inspections in accordance with best practice. Transport for London (TfL) carries out the following inspections of Twickenham Bridge: Twickenham Bridge’s structure is safe and operable. Inspections are an important tool in identifying recommended repairs and monitoring the condition of structures. At...
Mr Ernest Marples: I am very well aware of the attractiveness of Twickenham Station and of the inhabitants of Twickenham, but here the British Transport Commission is in a dilemma. If it does not give the information to passengers, it is criticised for the lack of information, and if it does give it, it is criticised on the ground of too much noise. It is really a question of degree and balance, and I will...

Angela Smith: ...) are for the year 2006, while the latest figures for deaths are for the year 2008. Table 1 provides the number of (a) newly diagnosed all cancers and the most common cancers in (i) England, (ii) Twickenham parliamentary constituency and (iii) Richmond and Twickenham Primary Care Trust for each year from 2002 to 2006. Table 2 provides the number of (b) deaths from all cancers and the most...
Sir Edward Keeling: Will the Minister give an assurance that the reconstruction of Potters Bar Station will be subject to the promise that he gave me many months ago, that the reconstruction of Twickenham Station would have priority—especially in view of the great importance of Twickenham?
Mr. Gresham Cooke: Will the hon. Gentleman note that the residents of Twickenham are content to go on being addressed as "Twickenham, Middlesex"?
Mr Michael Noble: Will the hon. Gentleman assure my hon. Friend the Member for Twickenham (Mr. Gresham Cooke) that he will get the quickest possible service from Twickenham to Murrayfield?
The numbers of police who would have been on other duties but for the Springboks matches played in England and Wales are as follows: Twickenham (5th November, 1969) … 540 Leicester (8th November, 1969) … 450 Newport (12th November, 1969) … 400 Swansea (15th November, 1969) … 637 Ebbw Vale (19th November, 1969) … 290 Twickenham (22nd November, 1969) … 923 Manchester (26th...
Mr Marcus Lipton: Is it either usual or necessary for a post office such as that at Twickenham to hold such a large amount of cash on the premises? If the money were to have been distributed today, why could it not have been delivered to Twickenham today instead of being kept overnight there?
Mr George Thomas: Before I put the Question, I must tell the House that I allowed the hon. Member for Twickenham (Mr. Jessel) to interrupt his hon. Friend, whereas the whole House is aware that a Ten-Minute Bill is heard without intervention. I apologise for not stopping the hon. Member for Twickenham.
Derek Wyatt: Will my right hon. Friend assure me that, if it is true that Twickenham is to get the world cup athletics, before that announcement is made the Government will provide no money, and no lottery money, until a proper infrastructure report has been done on Twickenham?
Theresa Villiers: Platform lengthening at Twickenham station is being considered as part of a package of works to facilitate the operation of longer trains and more passenger capacity on the route to London Waterloo by 2014. The Department is in negotiation with Stagecoach South West Trains, the operator of Twickenham station for the delivery of this additional capacity.
Tania Mathias: True childcare costs in Twickenham are double the current Government funding formula. Will the Minister meet me to share how we can avert a crisis and ensure that every three and four-year-old in Twickenham will be able to get 30 hours of free childcare?
Huw Merriman: I regularly meet with Network Rail and train operators to discuss rail performance and services. Twickenham has seen positive results. In the past 12 weeks, an average of 88.1% of trains across the lines serving Twickenham have arrived within three minutes of the stated time.
Karen Buck: The Twickenham constituency lies under four standard instrument departure routes when aircraft take off to the east. At Heathrow, given the direction of the prevailing wind, this is only about 20–30 per cent. of the time during a typical year, although prolonged periods of such operations can occur at any time. Twickenham is not directly over-flown by arriving aircraft approaching Heathrow.
Karen Buck: There is no specific noise monitoring of flights in the Twickenham area. The Civil Aviation Authority's Environmental Research and Consultancy Department produces annual noise contours at Heathrow on behalf of the Department. These are published on the Department's website. The latest report (ERCD 0401, July 2004) shows that Twickenham lies outside the 57dBA contour area normally considered...
Mr Toby Jessel: ...grateful for the opportunity to say something on this matter. The hon. Member for Brentford and Chiswick (Mr. Barnes) felt that improvements to the roundabouts along the Great Chertsey Road in the Twickenham stretch should be contingent on being accompanied by traffic lights. One can appreciate his concern about the effects of this traffic on Chiswick, with which we in Twickenham...
Mr George Lindgren: A large proportion of the Commission's costs is wages. The hon. Member for Twickenham said that the Commission was wrong in conceding the wage claims presented by the railway unions. I submit that this was necessary because the Government increased council house rents and private rents, which will make still further wage increases necessary. I join with the Minister in saying that the...
