Sajid Javid: The ONS does not provide information on non-retirement savings by age or by income group. Some additional information of interest may be found in the ONS wealth and asset survey. Data from the ONS show total financial assets excluding pensions and reserves were approximately £34,000 per person and £80,000 per household, in June 2012.
Sajid Javid: No estimates are available. Airlines, not passengers, are responsible for paying air passenger duty to HM Revenue and Customs. The published statistics on APD, including the total number of passengers for whom airlines were liable to pay APD, are available online here: https://www.uktradeinfo.com/Statistics/Pages/TaxAndDutyBulle tins.aspx
Sajid Javid: As envisaged in the framework document setting out the Treasury's relationship with the Crown Estate, my officials meet the Crown Estate to discuss its investment strategy in general terms once a year. The agreed strategy is summarised in the Crown Estate's annual report, for example the current strategy is at pages 18-19 of the 2011-12 report.
Sajid Javid: The Crown Estate's annual report for 2011-12 gives its net asset value at end March 2012 as £8,054.5 million.
Sajid Javid: The scheme aims to respond to all the letters it receives as promptly as possible. I have asked my HM Treasury officials to pursue this case with the scheme.
Sajid Javid: The scheme will continue to make payments until it closes in April 2014. The scheme aims to respond to all the queries it receives as soon as is possible.
Sajid Javid: The effects on the economy of fuel prices, including oil prices, refinery margins and tax, are assessed by the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) as part of its economic and fiscal forecasts.
Sajid Javid: The matter raised is for the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), whose day-to-day operations are independent from government control and influence. I have asked the FOS to write to the hon. Member about the issued raised. A copy of the response will be placed in the Library of the House.
Sajid Javid: The Government do not produce official estimates of secured or unsecured lending by region. The Bank of England publishes data on net lending to individuals, but these figures are not available at the regional level.
Sajid Javid: The Government recognise the important contribution that pubs throughout the country make to their local communities and the wider community. Given the large number of factors contributing to the decline in pub numbers, including shifting social trends, the relationship between beer duty and the pub industry cannot easily be determined.
Sajid Javid: The Government undertook an extensive consultation on air passenger duty last year. The consultation gathered views and evidence from stakeholders—more than 500 responses were received from all sectors. The Government published our response to the consultation on 6 December 2011 and we have no plans to commission further research.
Sajid Javid: That is a central plank of the Government’s policy, and I am sure that my hon. Friend will agree that some of the changes we have already announced, such as those contained in the personal allowance, which I know he supports, are doing exactly that.
Sajid Javid: I thought that the hon. Lady might start by congratulating the Government on the fifth consecutive fall in unemployment. She will know that one of the key planks of the Government’s policy for dealing with youth employment is the provision of apprenticeships. She might also welcome the 68% increase in the number of apprenticeships in her constituency.
Sajid Javid: The potential economic benefits of the Lancashire Enterprise Zone proposal, submitted by the Lancashire Local. Enterprise Partnership, were assessed against the same criteria as all other zones. These included the strength of the economic growth strategy, likely value for money and ease of implementation.
Sajid Javid: Yes, for the last time.
Sajid Javid: The Government will publish their assessment of the impact of minimum unit pricing alongside the Alcohol Strategy consultation. This will consider the impact of a minimum unit price on a number of factors including on the Exchequer, crime, health, consumption and businesses, including the pub industry.
Sajid Javid: The independent Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of England has operational responsibility for setting monetary policy in order to meet the inflation target in the medium term. Monetary policy is a macroeconomic tool used to affect the economy as a whole rather than to target support towards specific sectors.
Sajid Javid: The Department for Culture, Media and Sport will publish details of Government use of tickets and hospitality in the autumn, this will include use of transport services which operated on the Olympic or Paralympic Route Networks.
Sajid Javid: Yes. There is no geographical division within the United Kingdom as regards the total amount of £50 billion that is being allocated in the Bill. Applications will be dealt with and assessed on a case-by-case basis as they come in from different areas of the UK, including the devolved authorities.
Sajid Javid: HMRC has commissioned research on the effect that differential prices at UK airports could have upon the overall demand for aviation and upon passengers' choice of airport. A full report on the findings of the research will be published on HMRC's website in due course.
