Scottish Parliament: United Kingdom Government Autumn Statement (Engagement) (22 Nov 2023)

Kate Forbes: According to the Office for Budget Responsibility, the outlook for the United Kingdom is pretty subdued, and inflation, as well as interest rates, will be higher for longer. Much has been made already of the impact of Tory decisions on the consequential funding that Scotland will receive, but does the cabinet secretary accept that it is a double whammy, because not only will we receive less,...

Scottish Parliament: Housing (22 Nov 2023)

Kate Forbes: I have some sympathy with the scale of the challenge, as I will say later in the debate. However, real leadership requires sound policies to resolve it. The SNP has built 124,000 social and affordable homes since 2007. What would Labour do?

Scottish Parliament: Ferguson Marine (14 Nov 2023)

Kate Forbes: I pay tribute to the workers, who have often found themselves at the mercy of ever-changing leadership, ownership and political rhetoric. The only way to sustain the yard’s future is by ensuring that it can compete for contracts on merit. Can the cabinet secretary advise whether the yard is, indeed, becoming more competitive and how we can complete that journey?

Scottish Parliament: Migration to Scotland: Scottish Government Proposals (14 Nov 2023)

Kate Forbes: In the spirit of looking for solutions to the issues that Paul O’Kane has rightly outlined, I note that Labour is keen to get the keys to number 10, so how would Labour’s policy on immigration differ from that of the Tories?

Scottish Parliament: Decision Time (14 Nov 2023)

..., Cole-Hamilton, Alex, Constance, Angela, Dey, Graeme, Don, Natalie, Doris, Bob, Dornan, James, Dunbar, Jackie, Duncan-Glancy, Pam, Ewing, Annabelle, Ewing, Fergus, Fairlie, Jim, FitzPatrick, Joe, Forbes, Kate, Gibson, Kenneth, Grant, Rhoda, Gray, Neil, Greer, Ross, Harper, Emma, Harvie, Patrick, Haughey, Clare, Hepburn, Jamie, Hyslop, Fiona, Johnson, Daniel, Kidd, Bill, Lennon, Monica,...

Scottish Parliament: Fair Work in a Wellbeing Economy ( 9 Nov 2023)

Elizabeth Smith: ...Murdo Fraser described him as the Government in exile, but I think that the journalists are saying that he is actually the Government in waiting, along with his two colleagues, Michelle Thomson and Kate Forbes. I raise that because I want to compliment the paper that the trio wrote earlier this year, which I think was written with the intention of breathing some new life into SNP policy...

Scottish Parliament: Compulsory Sales Orders (Scottish Land Commission) ( 8 Nov 2023)

Kate Forbes: Setting aside the fact that land reform is the latest subject of Labour U-turns, does the cabinet secretary agree that the stifling of community progress by absentee landlords reveals why the relationship between communities and the land must continue to be reformed?

Scottish Parliament: Fisheries Negotiations ( 8 Nov 2023)

Kate Forbes: Considering the nature of the questions today, I suggest that listening and changing tack is a sign of strength. Other parties might want to recall that. Fishing is obviously a vital economic and social foundation stone for coastal communities. It is great to hear that we have a top-class team and to hear about the progress that is being made in establishing the newly defined northern shelf...

Scottish Parliament: Business Motions ( 8 Nov 2023)

Kate Forbes: As I understand it, members on both sides are keen to ditch the debate on immigration and the fact that immigration powers should be in the hands of the Scottish Parliament. This week alone, we learned that 7,500 children are stuck in the asylum system that is being run by the United Kingdom Government. Is that not something that we should be debating?

Scottish Parliament: Flooding (Support for Communities) ( 1 Nov 2023)

Kate Forbes: I hear Liam Kerr’s understandable concern on behalf of constituents who faced a devastating situation. In genuine good faith, I ask him to suggest which interventions make the biggest difference. In my speech, I will say what has made a big difference in Dingwall, but who could have envisaged 4m rises in Brechin? They were quite remarkable.

Find this exact word or phrase

You can also do this from the main search box by putting exact words in quotes: like "cycling" or "hutton report"

By default, we show words related to your search term, like “cycle” and “cycles” in a search for cycling. Putting the word in quotes, like "cycling", will stop this.

Excluding these words

We also support a bunch of boolean search modifiers, like AND and NEAR, for precise searching.
