Mr Burnham avoided the claim that only 10% of pupils in state schools are playing cricket, as the recent YouGov survey found. Surely, in his own heart he knows this to be quite near to the true figure.
The next time that he mentions having played for Lancashire schools, he might care to name the cricket club that he played at when a junior, and give it some credit. The vast majority of young players in county school teams get there as a result of learning and playing the game at local clubs and not at school.
