Before the Minister moves on to compulsion, will he agree with me that one of the most useful things that very young mothers can do in continuing their own education and that of their children is to introduce their children to books at the earliest possible time? If they cannot afford to buy books, they can borrow as many as they could possibly want from the public library, and that would help to break the cycle of illiteracy if the young mothers come from homes where the parents have not achieved in their own schooling and there are no books in the home.
