4. asked the Minister of Finance and Personnel for his estimate of the savings that his Department will require in the principal civil service pension scheme in 2014. (AQT 724/11-15)

I do not want to guess so I will furnish the Member with the precise figures in correspondence, if he is content with that.

Thank you.  I expect a similar answer to my supplementary.  What changes are likely to be applied to employee contributions to deliver the planned savings?

As a result of the reforms that recently passed through the House but have not yet received Royal Assent, we will take whatever steps are necessary, as will all Ministers who are responsible for one of the five principal schemes covered by the Bill, to realise the savings that the Executive collectively have to make.  There is a range of ways in which that can be done, and increased contributions are already hitting members of staff, but I would rather come back to the Member with more precise details than say something foolish and wrong in the House.
