For over 20 years, TheyWorkForYou has been making our democracy more transparent and our politicians more accountable.
We need your support to:
- Hold Power to Account — We highlight what our representatives are doing so they know the public is watching.
- Keep It Free and Accessible — No paywalls because everyone deserves unbiased information about decisions made on their behalf.
- Innovate and Go Further — How politics works is always changing and we're always looking for new opportunites to improve things.
We don't want to wait for a better political system to be given to us – we want to work together to make it happen now.

I, too, rise to present a petition in the same terms on behalf of the people of Dewsbury. It is no more and no less than a request that such matters are dealt with fairly from the perspective of those of us who live in England, who want no more than that enjoyed by those who live elsewhere in the United Kingdom. The Petition of the residents of Dewsbury. [P001454]

In passing, may I point out that the quotes recently attributed to me were not in fact mine? Is the hon. Gentleman in any way embarrassed by the fact that, within the space of 10 minutes, he has turned what was a sensible debate into a party political broadcast?

They had had on their minds the civilian casualties that may follow and the dire consequences for hostages if the country...

I accept that the timing of the Bill is unfortunate. This is the second time in three years that a court case that was known about well in advance has produced a result that has caught the Government flat-footed and necessitated emergency legislation. It is also unfortunate that this is being done so quickly, because there is great cynicism about the state among the general public, and...

It is a pleasure to follow the hon. Member for Kingston upon Hull East (Karl Turner). I declare an interest, in that I still practise at the Bar, so to a certain extent I comment on this Bill as someone who may have to make its provisions actually work. In that context, I think the Bill contains some very positive measures, especially on sentencing and cautions. I had not appreciated that...
