Mr Patrick Jenkin

Former MP for Wanstead and Woodford

As a result of COVID-19, some MPs have been less able to vote in Parliament, and this will be reflected in their voting record.

11th May to 2nd June 2020

All MPs could vote remotely through an online voting tool. Votes cast remotely are shown as normal on the TheyWorkForYou voting record.

2nd to 9th June 2020

The option of online voting was removed, and a number of MPs may have been unable to vote because they were not physically able to attend.

10th June 2020 onwards

The requirements on proxy voting were relaxed, allowing MPs to designate another MP to cast a vote on their behalf.

If an MP votes by proxy, it is effectively exactly the same as if they cast the vote in person and it shows up on their TheyWorkForYou voting record.

MPs are not required to designate a proxy, and may instead pair with an opposing MP to miss a vote. Parliament does not record when two MPs have come to a pairing arrangement, so on TheyWorkForYou, they will both appear to have been absent for the vote.

We will update this information if the situation changes. See more detail on votes during the COVID-19 period here.

Does my right hon. Friend accept that his decision will be widely welcomed on the Conservative Benches, not least by those of us who have been arguing that we should bring our nuclear industry into the mainstream of the world's nuclear industry? Will my right hon. Friend confirm that, far from being against the interests of the environment, the Royal Commission on environmental pollution...
  • Local Government Expenditure 16 Dec 1986

Is my right hon. Friend aware that he has the sympathy of many hon. Members, and not least of those who have held his high office before? Is not my right hon. Friend to be warmly commended for having come to the House at an early opportunity in order to make known the error discovered and his determination to put it right? Is this not another case of merely putting the law back to what...
  • Orders of the Day — Finance Bill: Pension Scheme Surpluses 17 Jul 1986

I beg to move amendment (a) to the proposed amendment, in line 6, leave out 'brought into account' and insert 'charged to tax'. I am grateful to my hon. Friend the Economic Secretary to the Treasury for explaining the purpose of Government amendment No. 18. I hasten to say that some of the criticism about the amendment is to my mind misconceived. There is only one issue on which it is right...
