Mr George Lawson

Former MP for Motherwell and Wishaw

As a result of COVID-19, some MPs have been less able to vote in Parliament, and this will be reflected in their voting record.

11th May to 2nd June 2020

All MPs could vote remotely through an online voting tool. Votes cast remotely are shown as normal on the TheyWorkForYou voting record.

2nd to 9th June 2020

The option of online voting was removed, and a number of MPs may have been unable to vote because they were not physically able to attend.

10th June 2020 onwards

The requirements on proxy voting were relaxed, allowing MPs to designate another MP to cast a vote on their behalf.

If an MP votes by proxy, it is effectively exactly the same as if they cast the vote in person and it shows up on their TheyWorkForYou voting record.

MPs are not required to designate a proxy, and may instead pair with an opposing MP to miss a vote. Parliament does not record when two MPs have come to a pairing arrangement, so on TheyWorkForYou, they will both appear to have been absent for the vote.

We will update this information if the situation changes. See more detail on votes during the COVID-19 period here.

While I welcome the announcement made by my right hon. Friend and agree that it can only assist in building up the standing and prestige of Parliament, may I ask him to throw his considerable weight against any move which seeks to retard the opposite tendency now taking place as seen in the proposed setting up of separate elected assemblies in Scotland and perhaps elsewhere, which can only...
  • Business of the House 25 Jul 1974

As my right hon. Friend tells us that the Government intend to adopt the Hare Coursing Bill, could he have the Government adopt a little Bill that I introduced on only the 16th of this month, seeking to protect an old couple in my constituency who have had £599·50 of their money taken from them by Chandris Shipping Lines Ltd.? Will my right hon. Friend look after the interests of such...
  • Business of the House 18 Jul 1974

As the subject matter for Thursday appears not yet to have been fixed, will my right hon. Friend ensure that we have a debate on that day on the report of the Scottish Select Committee on land use? Does my right hon. Friend agree that it would be a matter of great regret if that very important report were not debated before the House rises?
