Before my hon. Friend leaves this most important point about the closed shop in journalism, may I ask whether he is aware, and whether Ministers are aware, that in Western Europe there is only one other country that would ever contemplate a closed shop in journalism, and that is Denmark? In all the other countries, either there are laws to make it illegal to have a closed shop in journalism...
I revert to the question asked earlier by the hon. Members for Birmingham, Handsworth (Mr. Lee) about the absence last Monday of delegates to the European parliamentary Assembly. Could not the whole problem be solved if there were automatic pairing for the delegation to the European parliamentary Assembly and the Council of Europe parliamentary Assembly?
With regard to United Nations Resolution 242, surely it was a previous British Government who took out the word "all" in "all territories". The removal of the word "all" was a British initiative. Withdrawal from the territories, yes—but not all of the territories, necessarily. Is the Foreign Secretary repudiating that commitment by Her Majesty's Government of a previous day, before he was...
Would it not be a good idea for the offices to remain in Brussels but the Assembly to be in some other place—preferably Strasbourg? Should we not drop Luxembourg?
Does the Minister not think it a waste of public money for the countries of the EEC to meet in three different places—Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg? Would it not be better for the offices to be confined to Brussels and for the Parliamentary Assembly to meet in Strasbourg?
