Mr John Eden

Former MP for Bournemouth West

As a result of COVID-19, some MPs have been less able to vote in Parliament, and this will be reflected in their voting record.

Show more detail
11th May to 2nd June 2020

All MPs could vote remotely through an online voting tool. Votes cast remotely are shown as normal on the TheyWorkForYou voting record.

2nd to 9th June 2020

The option of online voting was removed, and a number of MPs may have been unable to vote because they were not physically able to attend.

10th June 2020 onwards

The requirements on proxy voting were relaxed, allowing MPs to designate another MP to cast a vote on their behalf.

If an MP votes by proxy, it is effectively exactly the same as if they cast the vote in person and it shows up on their TheyWorkForYou voting record.

MPs are not required to designate a proxy, and may instead pair with an opposing MP to miss a vote. Parliament does not record when two MPs have come to a pairing arrangement, so on TheyWorkForYou, they will both appear to have been absent for the vote.

We will update this information if the situation changes. See more detail on votes during the COVID-19 period here.

In view of all the activity off the coast of Bournemouth, and onshore in the county of Dorset, will my right hon. Friend balance the need for plentiful supplies of oil, natural gas, and nuclear power with the realisation that this is a holiday and tourist area of quite outstanding merit?
  • Orders of the Day — Copyright (Amendment) Bill: Search Warrants etc. 29 Apr 1983

I beg to move, That the Bill be now read the Third time. The new penalties and additional powers of search and seizure in the Bill will be an important deterrent against what has become a major criminal activity that damages the interests of the law-abiding business man and Britain's trade reputation. The international aspects of the traffic are its most serious feature. Many films are made...
  • Orders of the Day — Copyright (Amendment) Bill: Search Warrants etc. 29 Apr 1983

I note my hon. and learned Friend's observation, as will every hon. Member present. I am sure that if Members of those parties were here today they would support the Bill. Perhaps the fact that they are not here shows that they wish the Bill a speedy passage. I hope that I have interpreted their views correctly, although they must speak on their own behalf. This brief Third Reading debate...
