My Lords, now that rescue archaeology, which is what has really being happening during the past 20 years, is not quite so necessary, do we not have an opportunity to do some good academic archaeology in the near future and pay for people to do it?

Perhaps the CBA or IFA could send a short briefing document (a page would suffice) to the participants in this debate, explaining how archaeological work has been conducted since 1991 and PPG16, with developer funding also paying for the vast majority of research and publication. There is clearly a lot of confusion.
