Lord Inge addressed this rhetorical question to Lord Garden: "Whether those who have federations and unions have ever won." Lord Inge opposed in this debate the idea of a British Armed Forces Federation, which is fair enough. But the noble Lord surely cannot have known that coalition allies Australia, Denmark and the United States each have representative military associations which, in their different forms, correspond to a British federation.
