My Lords, it may be for the convenience of the House to know that later today my noble friend Lady Symons of Vernham Dean will table a Motion on Afghanistan to be debated in the House next week on Monday, 25th March. The Motion will ask the House to take note of developments in Afghanistan and the war on global terrorism. The debate will follow the Second Reading of the Proceeds of Crime Bill. It will not be time limited and a speakers' list has been placed in the Government Whips' Office.
The Second Reading is the most important stage for a Bill. It is when the main purpose of a Bill is discussed and voted on. If the Bill passes it moves on to the Committee Stage. Further information can be obtained from factsheet L1 on the UK Parliament website.
