Questions to the Mayor of London – answered at on 23 May 2022.
Could you update on known poor air quality hotspots that lie outside the North and South Circular Roads?
The London Atmospheric Emissions Inventory provides pollution concentrations data across London. The future years concentration projections are needed to enable us to identify any remaining hotspots. GLA officers are now working on the projections for future years. This will be published later this year.
We know that air quality in outer London has improved more slowly than in central and inner London. A recent report by Imperial College London found that the greatest number of deaths attributable to air pollution were in outer London boroughs. Additional action must be taken, which is why this month I will be launching a consultation on expanding the Ultra Low Emission Zone to cover all Greater London.
