In your Taxi & Private Hire Action Plan you stated: “I am determined to create a vibrant taxi and private hire market, with space for all providers to flourish.” How does the 21% decrease in taxi vehicles since your election, sit with that statement?

My Taxi and Private Hire Action Plan set out a range of actions that have been delivered by Transport for London (TfL) to support the industry, including the provision of more taxi ranks, taxi-dedicated rapid charge points and the taxi delicensing scheme.

Both the taxi and private hire industries, along with many other professions, have unfortunately been impacted by these unprecedented and difficult times. I know that TfL has been speaking regularly to the industry to offer support throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Measures, such as the delicensing scheme, are in place to support taxi drivers and vehicle owners make the switch to cleaner vehicles.

I’ve also asked TfL to explore if there is anything further that can be done to assist the industry.
