Is it unlawful for a taxi ride-hailing app to charge more than the metered taxi fare?

‘Ride-hailing’ is not a term that is defined in law. Transport for London does not license operators of taxi services, including those that use apps, and there is no-one that fulfils such a role in the statutory regime for taxis.

However, for journeys in Greater London taxi drivers must not charge a fare which exceeds the maximum displayed on the meter.
