From 6 to 13 October 2024, as a co-convenor of the Cross-Party Group on Taiwan, I visited Taiwan as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (Taiwan). The trip was arranged by the Taipei Representative Office (Edinburgh) in the UK, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) (of 1 Melville Street, Edinburgh, EH3 7PE). The Tapei Representative Office (Edinburgh) offers quasi-consular assistance to Taiwanese nationals in Scotland and represents the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the United Kingdom through a manner of cultural, academic, and economic activities. On my visit to Taiwan, I met a number of Government departments, as well as trade, faith-based and cultural organisations. The visit was made up of a cross-party delegation all of whom were, at the time of the trip, members of the Cross Party Group on Taiwan. The total cost of the flights, hotels and ancillary expenses was £8,800. These costs were met entirely by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) as detailed above. From 6 to 7 March 2023 I attended and spoke at a side event at the 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York. I was invited to speak as Convener of the Cross Party Group on Human Trafficking and co-convenor of the Cross Party Group on Commercial Sexual Exploitation. The cost of the trip was £535.25 for accommodation and overnight costs and 2,559.57 Euros for flights, which is equivalent to approximately £2,256.68. All costs were met by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (of Wallnerstrasse 6, 1010 Vienna, Austria), an intergovernmental regional security organisation with observer status at the United Nations. From 2 to 4 November 2025, I participated as a guest in the European Jewish Association (EJA) Annual Symposium in Krakow, Poland, and attended a visit and memorial service at Auschwitz-Birkenau in the 80th year of its liberation and in commemoration of the anniversary of Kristallnacht. I met and engaged with politicians from across the UK, Europe and the United States of America together with UK and international Jewish community and religious leaders. The focus of the symposium was on the current increase in antisemitism, in particular across Europe. The cost of the visit, comprising £300 for travel and £750 for accommodation and other costs associated with attending the Convention, was paid by the EJA (of Rue du Cornet 22, 1040 Brussels) which is an organisation that brings together politicians from across Europe to discuss issues such as antisemitism. Overseas visits From 15 to 22 August 2013, on the invitation of Barzan Kurda, Head of Bureau of NGOs of the democratic organisation of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) (a Kurdish political party of Karizewoshk, PUK Bureau Office, Sulaymaniyah), I visited Kurdistan to meet Kurdish officials to discuss how I can better work with the region and represent my Kurdish constituents in Glasgow and to pay respects to Kurds who lost family members at Halabja and during Anfal. The overall cost of the visit of US $5235 (US $1,600 accommodation costs, US $3,111 flights and $524 other costs), which is approximately £3,366 based on a conversion carried out on 11 September 2013, for three people was met by the PUK. 🔗

From 6 to 9 December 2024 I visited Doha to participate as a speaker at the Doha Forum in a session titled Diplomacy and Dialogue, Combatting Islamaphobia and Antisemitism. Abdul Momen MP, Foreign Affairs Minister; Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury MP, Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament; Md. Shahab Uddin MP, Minister of Environment Forest & Climate Change; Professor Dr AKM Zakir Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Kurigram Agricultural University; Md. Atiqul Islam, The Mayor of Dhaka North City; Dinner with Mahbub Ali MP, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism; and breakfast with Matt Cannell, British Deputy High Commissioner and Development Director to Bangladesh. The Delegation visited the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar; Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital; Nabiganj and Habiganj; the medical camp in Biswanath’s Amtoil Village, and NRB Hospital in Sylhet. In the course of these visits, the delegation held meetings with Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, Mayor of Sylhet; Chamber of Commerce of Sylhet and other business leaders from the region; university academic and administrative heads, and Ataur Rahman Selim, Mayor of Habiganj. The total cost of the visit was £3,683.57. The cost of the visit was; air ticket £4,055, accommodation £551, high speed rail £100, food £225, tickets for Chikan Tower, Fort Zeelandia, Anping Tree House and Taipei 101 £16. The total cost was £4,947 met in its entirety by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China (Taiwan). I also received gifts, which included a USB Drive. From 3 to 25 February 2024 I visited the United States of America as a participant in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. I participated in this particular three week professional exchange program with a range of other participants from Europe and Asia, considering various global challenges. From 15-25 May 2023 I visited New Dehli, Agra, and Ladakh in India to participate in the Generation Next Democracy Network Programme as part of the country’s G20 celebrations. This programme for an international delegation of 38 delegates included tours and introductions to important democratic institutions in India, meetings with elected officials and cultural experiences. The purpose was to educate those nominated by Consulates in their home countries about India’s democratic structures and culture. The costs of the visit were £989 for international flights, £1,613 for accommodation, £558 for domestic flights, and £200 for hospitality. The costs were met by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) (An agency of the Indian Government, at Azad Bhawan Rd, IP Estate, New Delhi, Delhi 110002). The Indian Council for Cultural Relations is an autonomous organisation of the Government of India involved in India's global cultural relations through cultural exchange with other countries. From 28 July 2019 and 2 August 2019, when I was a Member of the UK Parliament, I visited Beijing and Jinan, China, to participate in the 2019 Young Leaders Roundtable and to build UK-China understanding and partnership on environment and climate change issues. The costs of the visit were £1,586.50 for international flights, £292.74 for accommodation and £215.19 for transport. On 8 September 2024 I attended the Paralympics Closing Ceremony in Paris at the invitation of Channel 4 (television broadcast company; of 124 Horseferry Road, London, SW1P 2TX). From 16 to 26 October 2025, I was part of a delegation of cross-party MSPs who visited Bhutan to meet with MPs, NGOs and entrepreneurs to learn and share information about our respective countries and legislatures. From 17 to 24 October 2023, I took part in the International Visitors Program for the 2023 General Elections of Argentina in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The program was organised by the Directorate for Electoral Cooperation and Assistance of the Ministry of the Interior of Argentina (Gascón 352 - Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires) which manages issues pertaining to domestic politics such as immigration and co-ordination between the federal government and the governments of the provinces of Argentina. From 27 May to 2 June 2022 I took part in an international delegation to Colombia to monitor the current state of trade union rights, human rights and the peace deal signed between the Colombian state and the FARC-EP in November 2016.
