Part of Prime Minister – in the House of Commons at on 27 January 2021.
Can I associate myself and the Liberal Democrats with the Prime Minister’s comments on the holocaust?
A year ago next week, in a speech at Greenwich, the Prime Minister said that it was “high time” that the US
“cut their punitive tariffs on Scotch whisky.”
Since then, the industry has lost half a billion pounds in exports to the US, and the Government have failed to reach a deal to have the 25% tariff on single malt removed. So will the Prime Minister commit to working urgently with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to comply with the World Trade Organisation rules that led to the issue, and can he promise that in the Budget his Government will take steps to support this vital industry and employer?
