There are already provisions for local authorities to increase parking charges if they wish to do so, and my hon. Friend Kevin Hollinrake said that councils have done that. All I am seeking to do with the amendment is to limit the new powers in the Bill to reducing parking charges. The existing powers to increase car park prices via the normal consultation processes will still be there.
