I am grateful to my hon. Friend for her intervention and commend her for the work she has done on the issue. As ever, my thoughts are with the families of all those who have been affected by aggressive dogs, but, as surveys show, people buying from a pet shop are much more at risk. Do not take that risk.

My main concern is as you should know, my having sent you messages over several months, (I have yet to receive acknowledgement of receipt of these messages) Is the danger these, and in fact all dogs can present,to the owners, their family and everyone else who may come into contact with them. I have asked you to consider raising the question, re the muzzling of ALL dogs in certain circumstances, and in all cases when they are likely to be in contact with members of the public.Maybe this is the time to raise this question when you seem to be on the boil, and getting the attention, the subject deserves, but additionally more concern should be given to PEOPLE . We are supposedly animal lovers but we should not forget the people, many of them children who have been maimed, scared and killed by dogs. More control of dogs is required now. Many parade dogs as a status symbol, and are prepared to use them as a weapon. Some dogs have been identified as "dangerous" dogs but interbreeding throws up dogs that cannot be classified, hence the need for the control and management of ALL dogs.
