The overall context is that the transatlantic agreement between the European Union and the United States, if it materialises, would be of enormous economic benefit. We realise that there are some tricky negotiating issues, and the hon. Lady has highlighted one of them. We will try to ensure that the interests of our economy are properly protected.

It is to be hoped that Mr Cable's efforts in this respect will be more competent and successful than his part in the Royal Mail sell-off which has thrown away a national asset at far below its market value. The TPP poses a great threat to democracy and the interests of ordinary people and does more to benefit already over-powerful multi-national corporations than people or the environment. Mr Cable dismisses this threat at his (and his constituents') peril.
