The hon. Gentleman makes a good point. It is very important to send a message to all people in financial services that there is not something called white collar crime that is less serious than other crime. Crime is crime and it should be investigated and prosecuted with the full force of the law.

Fraud is a white collar crime. Police up and down the country tell the public that fraud is a civil matter and not criminal.

The Home Office tells victims of fraud that it is entirely up to police what they choose to investigate. Victims of white collar crime cannot get police investigations, unless the victim is a powerful corporation or the government.

Police only investigate fraud for the rich and powerful, who will pay them extra.

This is corrupt, and the British government knows full well that it is. Police should investigate all white collar crime - not just selectively.
