It is perfectly possible that Lord Levy is just mistaken, and that although he had overall control of the campaign, Gordon Brown knew nothing of the loans. However, if this be the case, then it indicates that there is no supervision of the ethics of financial matters in the Labour Party.
As previous experience of sleaze in the Conservative Party has shown, the steps from unethical to immoral to corrupt are very slight indeed.
