In the Home Secretary's consultations over the period of detention without trial for terror suspects, will he bear in mind the fact that many of us feel that 28 days is already rather too long for detention without trial, and that the idea of extending the period to as long as 90 days could be counter-productive in gaining the co-operation and support of many in the country who wish to be part of the community rather than alienated from it? Detention for 90 days will not bring about the peace and justice that the Home Secretary wants, but will probably drive some people into the arms of those whose arms he would rather they were not driven into.

Thank you for your comments concerning overzealous detention by the British authorities.
Please also be reminded that Border Control SouthEast runs a detention camp called "POD" withing the Port of Dover, on Dover Harbour Board land. It is situated just at the bottom of the "East Ramp".
In this camp British Citizens are held without justifiable cause, not being allowed access to access legal help, edible food, medicine and are humiliatingly stripped of their clothes and equipment for their disabilities and beaten by staff paid for by the British taxpayers. Their property is subject to illegal appropriation by the staff who run the centre and by the police force employed by the Dover Harbour Board. Those police officers abuse the British Citizens, infront of their young children and wives, causing the wives and children to cry. Young children and women on their own are kept in the midst of deportees, who when deported will not be able to be tracked if they abuse the British citizens in the detention camp.
When those British citizens complain to the Home Office, Port of Dover Harbour Board, and IPCC, their requests to have their experiences examined are not carried out. So there is no system of accountability, and human rights abuses continue to be carried out. Why does the labour government not respect families and abuse their own citizens tike this?
Rob Goldfield, the Chief Executive of the Dover Harbour Board refuses to speak with the people abused on his land.
Stuart Agutter, Port Security Manager for the Dover Harbour Board, in charge of the Port of Dover Police, has done nothing to reimburse British families for abuses by his staff.
Superintendent S Masters of the Port of Dover Police has done nothing to bring his officers to account.
Tony Smith, Director of Border Control Southeast District has done nothing to bring his officers to account.
Mr Nicholas Buckles in the Corporate Head Office of Group 4 Securicor refuses to release video footage of abuses carried out in his vehicles. Martin Peach, Director of Detection of Customs will not release his video footage either.
Mr Domenic Evans, Port Manager at the Port of Ramsgate refuses to be held to account for abuses on his land. The same too for Richard Samuels, Chief Executive of Thanet District Council, owners of the Port of Ramsgate.
Mr Michael Fuller QPM, Chief Constable of Kent Police too will not do anything to call his officers into line for their abuses.

Abuses of British Citizens will continue as there is no system of recording abuses of British citizens in British Government detention centres, and no method to hold those who abuse to account.
