I commend the Foreign Secretary and the Foreign Office for the professional way in which they are trying to secure the release of the personnel. Does she accept that on past form Iran is unlikely to respond purely to diplomatic representations? Will she therefore discuss with other European Foreign Ministers, when she meets them this weekend, whether their countries, particularly France, Germany and Italy, would be willing perhaps privately to make it clear to the Iranian Government that, if they do not release the British personnel in the very near future, there will be a joint European response involving economic pressure and perhaps the temporary suspension of export credit guarantees to Iran?

I don't think I've ever heard Rifkind talking about Kensington & Chelsea issues in Parliament. After monitoring the noises he makes, I feel convinced that he is a complete foreigner, only speaking on foreign issues despite the fact that we have elected him to represent us and to speak on our behalf on our issues. If the Tories want him to speak on their behalf, then one has to ask the question: "Who is he representing"?
As a Citizen in Kensington & Chelsea I object fundamentally because he is clearly not representing me. For example, NHHG are annually increasing rents because they say they are keeping in line with "annual increases". When Sir Brandon Rhys Williams was MP for Kensington in the 1980's he introduced legislation into Parliament on a Private Members Bill which prevented landlords from doing exactly what NHG are doing unless they could justify the increase. NHHG have done no such thing and are putting up rents without opposition despite my tiny voice which they have simply trodden on. Where is my MP when I need him? I'll tell you where... His mind, body and soul are all overseas. Maybe that's where HE should go, permanently.
