May I tell my right hon. Friend that my postal services in Cambridge are incomparably better than they were four years ago, and that the cancellation of the second delivery has actually led to an earlier first delivery? Certainly, I have heard no recent complaints, despite the fact that it is extremely difficult to recruit and retain postal workers, who do a very good job.

Maybe Anne's post delivery is better compared with four years ago, but the impression I get across Cambridge is everyone else's is worse compared with just a few months ago. See the newsgroup cam.misc for lengthy local debate on the matter.

We used to have a lovely post lady called Heidi, who delivered everything by about 8am, now we get a different person every day, stuff left outside the door and sometimes no delivery until lunchtime.

I work for a company in Cambridge that relies heavily on postal services and we've had to complain 2 or 3 times in the past month for deliveries not arriving or being short.

I agree with Jo. For many months last year the post here was very unreliable (late and frequently wrongly-delivered), often because temporary staff had been employed and barely trained about where to take letters.
